About the College

Namakkal Kavignar Ramalingam Government Arts College for women is affiliated to Periyar University, Salem. It is the first womens college established in the year 1969 by the Govt. of Tamilnadu for the upliftment of women. The college started functioning with 3 undergraduate programmes, History, Tamil and Botany. Presently, the college offers 13 UG courses and 8 PG courses in the first shift and 5 UG courses in the second shift. The college is housed on a spacious land, spread over 20 acres. Nearly 3100 students are studying in this college. The college is located on the national highway towards Tiruchirappalli at about half a kilometre from Namakkal bus stand and 15km from railway station.

The college is quite strong in academic, co-curricular and extension activities. The college has well established laboratories in all departments and a language lab in the English department. The building and infrastructural facilities are well maintained. The college has abundant space for sports and games. The library is well stacked with 36457 books, magazines and journals. Hostel is located within the college premises. The college has been Accredited at A grade by NAAC - 3rd Cycle with a CGPA of 3.18 in the year 2016.

Dr. D. Greeta Mary Thenral, Principal of the college is doing a commendable service to improve the quality of he academic progammes and also to meet the challenges in educating the students.

The college is accounted for 120 teaching staff, 7 administrative staff and 12 technical staff. Faculty members in all the departments are highly qualified, experienced and dedicated in doing service for the students and also for the society. The Science and Arts departments are offering Ph.D and M.Phil programmes in collaboration with Periyar University, Salem..

The college maintains a high pass percentage at UG and PG levels with University ranks. Every year the college produces 10 to 20 university ranks in UG and PG courses. In the academic year 2015-2016, university rank holders from UG and PG courses are 12 and in 2014-2015, 18 students got university ranks.
