N.K.R Govt Arts college for Women is the only government Women’s institution of higher learning located in Namakkal district. It is catering to the needs of the education of girls who hail from socially and economically backward areas. The present infrastructure and teaching capability, efforts are made to provide them with quality education. Smart class room with latest multimedia techniques education is being imparted to the students.
Since from the inception of the college in 1969, History was offered as a subject in PUC level. The inauguration of U.G Course in History in the year 1970 being the first degree course to be started in this college marked an important step in the growth of this Department. Students were taught both in English and Tamil medium. Two classes of 40 students each were started. To meet the demands of the people in this area P.G. Course in History was initiated in 2012 student strength of 15. Both U.G. and P.G. students have produced results with university rank holders.

History Department Association Inauguration was held on 29.09.2015.H.O.D. Dr. R. Sriganapriya welcomed everyone. Principal gave presidential address regarding the function. Our chief guest Dr. A. Antony Selvaraj, Associate Professor in History, Govt Arts College-Melur, gave a wonderful talk on the topic “WOMEN AND PRESS”. He encouraged the students by interactive and gave books to the winners as prizes. Besides cultural programmes was participated by students. Bharatha Natyam, Group Dance were enjoyed by viewers. “PREVENTION OF FEMALE INFANTICIDE” drama was staged. Previously, a debate was conducted. “IS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY GOOD OR BAD?” under the arbitrator of Dr. D. Ruckmani. Oratorical competition on the topic “BARATHIYIN PENN VIDUTHALAI KANAVA? NANAVA?” also conducted. “CONSERVATIVE OF ENVIRONMENT” related drawing competition was conducted. Mime was staged with the themes of BAD EFFECTS OF LIGOUR CONSUMING, GROWING TREES, RELIGIOUS UNITY, ect,. At last Dr. D. Ruckmani, Assistant Professor in History, gave Vote of Thanks. The Inauguration function was completed with National Anthem.
